ISINI 2018 - HOW TO MAKE THE PARIS AGREEMENT WORK?
POLICY ADVICE FOR COP24
An impression of the interactive debate among all ISINI conference participants on climate regulation at the 13th Conference of the International Society for Intercommunication of New Ideas (ISINI), held at WSB University in Wroclaw, Poland, 30-31 August 2018.
The ISINI 2018 conference was concluded with a participatory and interdisciplinary session with inputs from all participants on ways forward for climate change regulation to contribute to achieving the goals of the Paris Agreement. Around 45 social scientists provided the following advice.
In the framework of the Paris Agreement, policy negotiators at the forthcoming UN climate negotiation session (‘COP24’) in Katowice, Poland, are asked to consider to:
- Strengthen the transparency mechanism of the Paris Agreement for increased climate policy ambitions, as expressed in countries’ Nationally Determined Contributions;
- Acknowledge and sustain the need for embedding climate policy actions in societal structures, with related social values and behaviour;
- Phase out policies that slow down deployment and diffusion of low and zero-emission technology options, for instance by abolishing fossil-fuel subsidies;
- Integrate energy and climate regulation as ambitious climate policies take place against the backdrop of a growing global energy demand, with specified roles and responsibilities for private and public energy firms;
- Strengthen regulation for climate change adaptation, given the increasing vulnerability of people globally;
- Strive for enhanced protection of ecological systems around the world, including nature-based solutions as an option for adaptive cities and other communities.

ISINI-13 Wroclaw August 2018
The thirteenth international conference of the International Society for the Intercommunication of New Ideas (ISINI) took place at the WSB University in Wroclaw, Poland 30-31 August 2018.
The purpose of the Society is: to foster the discovery and dissemination of new ideas, in particular in economics and other social sciences, to test these ideas and to study the application to problems of the real world. The Society aspires to realize its purpose by creating and upholding an environment where economists meet, consult and cooperate with scholars from other disciplines.
The major instrument of ISINI has until now been its conference. So next to the usual economists, we hope to welcome scholars in Wroclaw who are working in other social sciences (including law, legal science, history and political science), who are cooperating with economists in common research projects or who are doing research in areas where both sides could benefit from an exchange of ideas.
The ISINI 2020 conference will be held in Wrocław (Poland). The organizers invite scientific institutions for organizing a panel at the ISINI 2012 conference.
